SPORT BUFF has added the highly experienced sports rights and broadcast leader Simon Green – formerly Head of BT Sport – to its Board and welcomed him as a shareholder.
This appointment, to the award-winning gamification and on-screen engagement business, comes soon after the announcement of $2.5million of global investment in seed funding in August 2022.
Green drove BT Sport from inception in 2012, building the business and its reputation through critically acclaimed Premier League coverage and rights acquisitions including UEFA Champions and Europa League football, WSL, Premiership and European Rugby union, boxing, UFC, MotoGP, women’s tennis and WWE. He previously worked at Sky Sports, Setanta, Fox Sports, The Football Association and Box Nation.
Confirming the appointment, Founder and President Jonty Whitehead said:
“It’s powerful for us to add Simon’s experience to the SPORT BUFF Board and shareholding as we continue to grow at pace.
“Simon has huge knowledge of broadcast, production and partnerships and a proven record of building businesses and helping them to deliver. He’s well known and respected in sport, experienced in working with clubs, leagues and global properties and understands both broadcast and digital engagement.
“We now add those skills to give us the strong experience and expertise for the next stage of our development.”
On his appointment to the Board at SPORT BUFF, Simon Green said:
“I am delighted to join the team at Sport Buff at a time when the business is gaining traction with sporting bodies and broadcasters.
“The search for editorially relevant and informative live digital engagement around sporting events is fast becoming a factor in how broadcasters connect with new audiences.
“There’s far more to watching live sport now than sitting back and being a passive viewer and Sport Buff offers the opportunity for a longer and richer engagement of events in a way that will particularly appeal to younger fans.”
SPORT BUFF was founded in 2019 by tech entrepreneur Benn Achilleas [CEO] and global broadcast leader Jonty Whitehead [President]. Its successful recent investment round, concluded this summer, brought significant funding combined with the experience, connections and advice of additional investors, to further support its scale-up, reach new partners and deliver for viewers, brands and broadcasters.
With cutting-edge technology, proven operational delivery and deep experience in live sports broadcasting, the business has already worked with a range of sports rightsholders and broadcasters across a range of platforms including Web OTT, Android and iOS as well as Twitch and YouTube.
SPORT BUFF works for rightsholders, broadcasters and consumers as viewers are proven to play and stay with the coverage, then come back for more. Their on-screen graphics fit around the original broadcast to give viewers extra information, engagement and interaction – through posts, polls and quizzes – that enhance their enjoyment and understanding and allow them to win rewards and prizes. Broadcasters who use BUFF are proven to be able to increase viewing time, capture valuable data and drive greater engagement with their viewers, as well as create new on-screen sponsorship assets, helping them to better engage, retain and monetize their audience.
